Welcome to the official website of Children of Amal

Children of Amal is a Scotish charity set up to provide a therapeutic music programme which has been used extremely succesfully in war zones with badly traumatized children.

It has been introduced in to refugee camps in Palestine and has now expanded with the training of local social workers. Funding is much needed for this important project.

Since September 2000 over 1500 Palestinian children have been killed by Israeli armed forces. Shootings, tear gas bombs, sound bombs and incursions by Israeli soldiers are common occurances in the camps as are the curfews. Many children sleep under their bed because they think 'it is safer'. Children also suffer from nightmares and the many other symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.

If you would like to learn more about the project please see our our work.

Objectives of the Children of Amal Scotish Charity

To promote the welfare and relieve suffering and distress of children who are victims of conflict in the Palestinian Occupied Territories - provide group therapy using music as a creative art, educate and train others in the use of music as a counselling tool for the benefit of the children who are victims of conflict, provide equipment and materials, plus train Palestinian graduate Social Workers and Psychologists to carry out this programme. The objective was to use the creative arts, and in particular music, to help children deal with the difficulties of living in an environment of life-threatening danger, brutalisation and conflict. In particular, the intervention was designed to offer help to those with clinically diagnosed or diagnosable symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder
