Children's Stories:

The comments of parents and children.
Before starting a course, the parents of the children chosen (generally the mother) was interviewed and asked to speak about her child’s life-style, feelings and fears. These were noted.

After the six sessions the child was asked about his or her experiences on the course, and the mother again asked to comment on any changes in her child’s feelings and behaviour.

A sample of the interviews follow. All the results were positive, the only complaints from the children was that they were not able to continue. Most of the work was carried out in Balata Camp in Nablus. Balata camp is home to 30,000 displaced Palestinians. Therapy has also been done in Asker Camp’s 1 and 2, Al Ein camp and also with children in The Old City of Nablus which has suffered from bombings and incursions by Israeli soldiers.

There are many more young qualified SW’s and Psychologists in Nablus who are very capable of carrying out this work. The unemployment rate in Nablus is extremely high and there are many young graduate psychologists and SW who apply to work with the children. Those we are able to train and employ, in what is part time employment, are paid a small fee which our finances allow. Many have worked unpaid.
